It’s sane to be disgusted.
The past killing of Cecil, the lion (killing sounds in this sentence more appropriate than hunting. Any animal hunts for living. Man kills for fun and ego) has made people react all over the world. A reaction that some decades ago probably would’ve been difficult to see. A reaction that could teach a lesson not only to the hunter/killer/assassin who decided if Cecil would live or die, but to the rest of people who see that ending someone’s life is worth a trophee.
Humanity is looking at animals as living beings that deserve the chance to breath, eat, hunt for survival. I understand that some tribes still need to hunt to survive. They’ve been doing it for centuries. I understand there are species that have become a plague, mostly because they have been brought by humans to areas that are not their natural habitat, thus creating a chaos in the surrounding nature (many years ago they brought beavers to the south of Argentina to develop fur farming. For some reason it didn’t work, the let the beavers free to go to a strange environment with no natural predators, they multiplied and they became a plague). I don’t understand how hunting is legal to keep a sane population of deers, bears etc. It’s like humans could be hunted by a stronger specie to keep a healthy population of us.
We are reacting against the killing of Cecil. We need to keep reacting against any killing for sport, any killing for any reason (religion, race, political belief etc).
It is sane to feel disgusted by hunting done by humans and by killings. It would be insane not to.
